On March 13, the Obama administration released its blueprint for revising the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

The blueprint challenges the nation to embrace education standards that would put America on a path to global leadership. It provides incentives for states to adopt academic standards that prepare students to succeed in college and the workplace, and create accountability systems that measure student growth toward meeting the goal that all children graduate and succeed in college.


Specific Elements:



On May 4, 2010 the Obama administration released a series of documents outlining the research that supports the proposals in the blueprint. These research summaries will serve to inform conversations around ESEA reauthorization and the reforms that research shows are necessary. On March 24, AACTE submitted recommendations for ESEA reauthorization to the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor. The Association also helped draft recommendations from the Higher Education Task Force on Teacher Preparation.
